The Brick Lattice Kudil

A contextually rooted residence designed for Mr. Karthik in Pallavaram, Chennai, this project explores a refined material palette of exposed brick jaali and random rubble stone masonry to create a strong yet breathable facade. The perforated brick screens act as passive climatic elements, enabling cross-ventilation, filtered daylight, and thermal buffering. The ground level is conceived as a semi-open plinth accommodating parking and entry, while the upper volume ensures privacy through controlled openings. Clean horizontal bands and a simple RCC frame structure lend clarity to the massing. Overall, the design balances solidity and porosity, responding sensitively to the suburban tropical context.
